Jesse F. Brumbaugh papers, ca. 1875-1958.

The collection consists of Brumbaugh's teaching materials from psychology and law courses, writings, personal correspondence, biographical information, grade school notebook from the mid 1870s, clippings and memorabilia, and photographs. The first series is a grade school notebook from about 1875 which includes hand-drawn maps of states and related geographical information, other drawings, writing lessons, mathematical problems, historical essays and poetry. Series two is biographical and family genealogical information. Series three includes correspondence with professional colleagues, family members and publishers. Series four consists of law related teaching materials, including a 1915/16 Farmers' Short Course in law and government. Series five contains teaching materials (primarily lecture notes) pertaining to the various psychology courses taught by Brumbaugh at Oregon State. Series six contains other writings including poems written by Brumbaugh. Series seven contains a variety of personal financial records including insurance policies, tax statements, property deeds and stock information. Series eight includes newspaper clippings on a variety of subjects and various items of memorabilia. Series nine consists of photographs; those identified include a portrait of daughter Madeline Brumbaugh and an image of Jesse Brumbaugh pushing a reel mower.

Jesse F. Brumbaugh served as professor of psychology at Oregon State College from 1915 until his retirement in about 1939 when he became professor emeritus. He continued teaching into the 1950s. Brumbaugh (originally spelled Brumback) was born in Kewanna, Indiana on May 29, 1868. He received degrees from Depauw University (A.B., 1894), University of Chicago (A.M. 1902), and the State Law School of South Dakota (L.L.B., 1910).
